The Interplast teams worked in cooperation with Kommitee Twee in Hanoi and in the northern part of Vietnam. Kommitee Twee was a Dutch foundation in Vietnam that concerned itself with disabled children. The Interplast teams travelled together with the surgeons from the Children’s hospital in Hanoi to the north of Vietnam to operate on children and train local medical personnel. Operations were performed in Tuyen Quang, Ha Giang, Cao Bang and Ha Bac.
Nearly a 1000 young patients with cleft lips and /or palates were operated on in the period from 1994 to 1996.
By 1997 the local surgeons were able to perform the operations themselves thus bringing the three-year project to a successful end.
