At the invitation of the Dutch sister André Lemmers of the Yayasan Sinar Pelangi Foundation, Interplast Holland has been organising missions to Indonesia since 1999. Mainly children with cleft lips and palates have been operated on with the support of the Stichting Rena.

In 1999 an Interplast team worked on the island of Kalimantan and in 2001, 2004 and 2007 on the island of Sumba.
In 2007 again many children with cleft lips were treated but this time, too, on request, goitre patients were also operated on. Many people on the island of Sumba suffer from goitre, an excessively large thyroid gland. A general surgeon who joined the team of plastic surgeons at the last minute operated on 50 patients. Sister André played a key role during all four missions!
